Program Associate
Port Discovery Children's Museum has on-going openings for Program Associates.
Port Discovery provides a creative work environment and the opportunity to be a major contributor to the success of one of the region's leading educational resources. A flexible schedule is preferred. Weekends and weekday mornings are generally when staff members are needed. Evening events and Overnight Adventures are staff by Program Associates as well. Position offers up to 29 hours per week. Please state availability in cover letter. Must be 18 to apply and we require background clearance before hire.

Responsible for the overall guest experience as it pertains to the programming of the exhibits and the creative environment within the museum. Experience with the public and excellent customer service skills are required. Early childhood experience and/or art or theatre background ideal. Must be able to facilitate informal education with groups of 30 or more children and adults as well as work with the general public. College students are encouraged to apply.

VP of Education & Experience Development
Port Discovery Children’s Museum seeks an innovative and strategic visionary to lead the delivery of interactive educational experiences, and to inspire learning through play and life-long curiosity.

This is an exciting new leadership position.  As a result of the strategic direction being set by the Museum and the developing Capital Campaign, this position will be a key part of the leadership team as we “Re-Imagine” Port Discovery for the next generation. Looking for a dynamic professional with excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to help advance the Museum as a statewide and national leader in the field of informal learning, children’s museums, and early childhood education.

This Vice President of Education and Experience Development will foster a culture of learning in the museum that emphasizes interdisciplinary dialogue, imaginative use of learning and evaluation methods, creativity, and risk-taking.

The position is responsible for championing the essential role of play in early learning and developing sustainable plans to extend the Museum's early learning impact on a scale that engages thousands of children, families and educators, and ensuring the highest show quality standards. 

The Vice President shapes engagement for the Museum through the creation and evaluation of play-based learning programming for children within our permanent and traveling museum exhibits as well as learning environments in non-museum locations; educational programs onsite, in schools and in the community, and informs evaluation strategies.  This position guides, supports and works closely with three experienced and talented individuals – Port Discovery’s Curator of Innovation and Engagement, the Director of Exhibits and the Director of Guest Services and directly oversees the Education and Guest Services departments.  The Vice President will act collaboratively across departments in the design of interactive educational experiences that advance Port Discovery’s mission. The relationship between the organization’s Education and Experience Development department and the Exhibits, Development and Marketing departments is particularly important to ensure that appropriate programs that are both dynamic and relevant in content are in place to drive attendance and engagement.

Requirements / Qualifications:
*  Relevant Graduate (or Post Graduate) Degree required.
*  Extensive knowledge in early childhood development, family engagement, community and informal education for children.
*  Minimum of ten years’ experience in positions of growing leadership scope.
*  Minimum of five years strategic planning experience, including proven success in planning and developing new educational initiatives.
*  Five plus years of experience leading people and teams.
*  Active knowledge of community and educational organizations and initiatives both statewide and nationally required.
*  Comprehension and experience with formative and summative program evaluation and management required.
*  Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
*  Computer proficiency with intermediate abilities using MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
*  Expert interpersonal skills.

Box Office Associate
Port Discovery Children's Museum provides experiences that ignite imagination, inspire learning, and nurture growth through play.  We are currently looking for a talented, friendly and outgoing Box Office Associate.

This is a part time position offering approximately 15-20 hours per week, which requires availability on Saturdays AND Sundays.  We can offer a convenient schedule for college students!

Summary of Position:
Box Office Associate will serve as the first point of contact for all guests who visit the museum and is responsible for upholding the highest degree of customer service.  We are looking for someone that is outgoing and likes interacting with people.  He / she will carry out all daily operations of the box office.  Additional responsibilities will include soliciting and managing group sales via the phone.  The successful candidate must have the ability to anticipate and respond quickly and effectively and to enact sound judgment in respect to guest needs, questions, and expectations.

Qualifications and Skills:

•    High School diploma or equivalent required.
•    College minded individuals preferred.
•    1-3 years’ cash handling experience required.
•    Computer experience required.
•    Excellent verbal communication required.
•    Proven customer service training and skills a plus.
•    Experience with children and / or a theatre background a plus.

Outreach Education Associate
Port Discovery Children's Museum provides experiences that ignite imagination, inspire learning, and nurture growth through play. We are currently looking for a talented and resourceful individual to be our part time Outreach Education Associate.

The Associate will implement and evaluate innovative educational activities, programs, and family activities for young children (ages birth through 10 years old).   The Associate will create and implement educational programs for Pre-K and Elementary children, including Afterschool Program, SuperKids Summer Camp, and Museum on the Road. Assists in the maintenance of all outreach materials.

This position offers 24 hours per week.  The work week for this position is mid-week, consisting of 5 to 6 hour shifts.  Scheduled work hours will be adjusted according to department/ museum needs.  Participation in special events, evenings, weekends and holidays will be necessary.

Incumbent for this position must be willing and able to travel to and between the museum and outreach locations, with bins and outreach supplies.  Incumbent must also have a valid driver’s license and reliable non-public transportation.
Responsibilities & Duties:
•    Provides assistance in the programmatic oversight of Afterschool and Museum on the Road. 
•    Represents the first line of assistance, direction and interaction with all enrichment partners (i.e.:  Afterschool/ Museum on the Road).
•    Performs direct service duties for Museum on the Road and Afterschool programs, as assigned.
•    Performs direct service duties (in the museum) for Special Events and other programs, as assigned.
•    Responsible for thorough understanding and knowledge of all enrichment curriculum/operations, exhibits and programs.
•    Prepare program materials.

Education and/ or Experience:
•    High School Diploma required.
•    Bachelor’s Degree in progress or completed is preferred (in Education, Public Health, Arts, Science, or a related field).
•    Minimum of 1 - 2 years’ experience working with children and families in a public setting is required.
•    Experience in elementary education and community outreach.
•    An interest in working closely with children, educator and museum staff.
•    Must have excellent organizational, business writing and interpersonal skills. 
•    Museum experience preferred.
•    A valid Driver’s License and reliable non-public transportation is required for this position (for outreach activities).
