Dear Educators,

Welcome to a UNIQUE and EXCITING learning experience at Port Discovery Children's Museum! All of the exhibits and programs enhance classroom experiences and bring magic to learning.

Ranked among the top 12 children’s museums in the country by Forbes, Port Discovery is a creative learning lab designed to encourage every child to connect purposeful play and learning through
“minds-on/ hands-on” experiences! Here, students will learn what happens to water pressure as they build a fountain in Wonders of Water! They can become archeologists in Adventure Expeditions
and go on a journey to Egypt in search of a Pharaoh’s tomb. They can even put on their detective hats and search for clues leading to missing family members in Miss Perception’s Mystery House!
For students who enjoy the creative process, the Studio Workshop offers exciting, visual arts projects.

We believe that children of all abilities should have the opportunity to imagine, play, and learn in a safe and nurturing environment. For students with special needs, Port Discovery hosts several days
throughout the school year that offer lower group attendance and building modifications to reduce
environmental distractions. These days include:

• Discovery Days for children developmentally 6 and under
• Discovery Days for children developmentally 7 and older
• PortAbility Days for children on the autism spectrum
• Be A Part of The Art Celebration: Inclusive Arts Day
• Discover ME Days for inclusive opportunities

(Please visit www.portdiscovery.org/educators/special needs for special events and dates, as well as to access our scripted stories to prepare your students for their Port Discovery visit!)

For children ages five and under, every Wednesday from October through April is Wonderful Wednesday where we only book groups in Second Grade or younger and offer special early childhood programs for all guests.

Every program and exhibit at Port Discovery is reviewed by the Museum Education Advisory Committee to ensure they link to the common core curriculum, and we are constantly enhancing programs, exhibits, and attracting special exhibitions to supplement in-classroom learning. We hope you will visit us this year so that we can make your list of best places to bring school children!

On behalf of the staff and volunteers at Port Discovery, I wish you and your students a year of special discoveries!

Sincerely,

Nora Moynihan
Director of Education and Community Enrichment
