When is the best time to visit?

During the school year, we recommend visiting after 1 pm to avoid the crowds of school groups. Wonderful Wednesdays, which run from October - April, are also great days to visit if you have children under age 6.

During the summer, camp groups may visit the Museum throughout the day. If you are concerned about group crowds, please call or email the Director of Guest Services, Tuesday – Saturday between 8:30 am – 5 pm, at 410-864-2650 or  cbrown@portdiscovery.org prior to your visit to find out how many groups are booked for the day.

If you prefer a quieter play time, we recommend arriving during the first hour the Museum opens or after 2pm. Sundays are generally less crowded than Saturdays.

Peak Days
School holidays and dollar admission/free days attract large crowds. If you choose to visit on these days, we recommend arriving within the first hour the Museum opens.

How should we dress?

Everyone should dress ready for play! Sneakers or flat soled, closed toe shoes are recommended and are required if you plan to climb KidWorks. For your comfort and safety, please do not wear high-heeled shoes or boots, open-toed sandals or flip flops, and be sure to remove any loose or hanging jewelry before you play. An extra set of clothes is recommended if playing in the Wonders of Water exhibit.

Are the Museum exhibits suitable for all ages?
The majority of the Museum’s exhibits and programs are designed for children ages 2 through 10 years old. For children under 2, we recommend Tot Trails, our new infant/toddler exhibit, and The Oasis.  We also offer a variety of early childhood programs that run throughout the week.
