Youth Art Month
Celebrated Throughout March
Celebrate Youth Arts Month with Your Child!
Celebrate National Youth Art Month with Port Discovery as we feature young adult local artists! Take part in numerous interactive workshops throughout March that include card making, drawing dragons, creating your own loop animation, and meeting King Arthur and Queen Guinevere of Camelot. Plus, enjoy Puppet Powered Weekend this month to celebrate World Puppetry Day!
Join Port Discovery’s resident artist Kenneth Clemmons and create pop up cards. Design a pop-up card with cut out hands and a heart to show love and support to you, a family member or a friend!
Saturday, March 5 from 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Meet and interact with Port Discovery’s resident performer, Jessica Preactor. King Arthur and Queen Guinevere of Camelot have come to teach one of the virtues of becoming a Knight of the Round Table: telling the truth. Unfortunately, Arthur told a big lie, so the Great Warlock Merlin turned him into a dragon! Help Gwen and Arthur reverse the spell while learning how honesty is the best policy.
Sunday, March 6 from 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Guest artist Kelsey Joyce returns to Port Discovery to facilitate a dragon themed, take-home art project! Draw the parts of your dragon’s body on a paper plate, cut them out, and tape them together. Then design and color with markers or paint! Leave any painted creations at the drying station to pick them up before you leave.
Saturday, March 12 all day
Join Port Discovery for Puppet Powered Weekend on March 19 and 20! Meet a chameleon puppet. Watch Alex and Olmsted's Jim Henson Foundation Grant awarded “Milo the Magnificent” puppet show. X-ray Bonesevelt and see what puppets are made of. Sing along with Mary Jo and her trusty cow Moona Mae. Participate in an award-winning puppet show: “Silly Goose and Val.” And more!
Create your own animation with Port Discovery’s resident artist Faith Chamberlee. Learn about how animations are formed using art materials and technology.
Saturday, March 26 from 11:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
