Board and Staff
President and Chief Executive Officer
As President & CEO of Port Discovery Children’s Museum, Bryn Parchman is a leader, influencer, and advocate for Baltimore – and for all of the children and families that call Maryland home. Ms. Parchman has positioned the Museum as one of the top Children’s Museums in the United States, recognized by Forbes, Fodor’s and many others. Her vision and leadership have led to the creation of state-of-the-art interactive educational exhibits, fun and educational early learning programs, multidisciplinary in nature. These programs and exhibits create the opportunity for all to benefit from child-driven playful learning, both in the Museum and statewide in the community it serves.
Bryn has championed the cause to make Port Discovery accessible to all children, especially those from under-resourced and special needs communities. Under her tenure, a robust Museum on the Road outreach program was launched, now serving Head Start sites, Judy Centers, and Title I schools throughout the State. The museum also expanded the Museum’s Discovery Days program and initiated a partnership with PACT: Helping Children with Special Needs, an affiliate of Kennedy Krieger Institute. As a result of this unique partnership, Port Discovery was recognized with the children’s museum industry’s highest award, the MetLife Promising Practice Award as well as the Replication Award which resulted in the launch of an online toolkit for replicating this program in children’s museums across the country. In her commitment to providing access to children from economically disadvantaged communities, the Family Access Program was initiated, providing free museum memberships and passes to families, the military, and many organizations that are directly serving these populations.
In addition to the work she’s done over the last twenty years to bring powerful play and learning to over 5 million children and families, her leadership and vision for the Museum recently led to the completion of a $10.5 Million Capital Campaign, Playing Today, Leading Tomorrow, that brought state-of-the-art and transformative exhibits, experiences and improvements to Port Discovery Children’s Museum.
Bryn has been recognized as one of Maryland’s Most Admired CEOs by the Daily Record, one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women, and inducted into the Circle of Excellence for Sustained Achievement by the Daily Record. She also was inducted into Smart CEO’s Brava! Hall of Fame, and named an Enterprising Woman by The Baltimore Business Journal.
In addition to supporting play and learning through her work at Port Discovery Children’s Museum, Ms. Parchman is an active advocate for arts, culture and education for all. She currently serves as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for The Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance, where she works to nurture and promote a vibrant, diverse and sustainable arts and cultural community on behalf of arts and cultural organizations and individual artists. Ms. Parchman is also a member of Executive Alliance, Maryland’s leading business women’s network and serves on the President’s Advisory Council for Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services. Previous volunteerism has included serving as the Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Association of Children’s Museums, Advisory Board Member for the Institute for a Healthiest Maryland, Advisory Committee member for Visit Baltimore, Advisory Panel Member for Athena Power Link, and as a board member of Roland Park Country School, among others.
Bryn earned her undergraduate degree from The Colorado College and her MBA from The Carlson School of Management/University of Minnesota. Prior to Port Discovery, Bryn held positions with Norwest Corporation/Wells Fargo, The Martin Agency and Trahan, Burden and Charles.
