Venture into the world of machines, sensory, art, and more. Best of all, our age-appropriate (Prek-5th) programs are designed to align with Maryland State standards and curricula! Schools are encouraged to book their trip to Port Discovery at least four weeks in advance. Reservations are required. Explor-A-Tour Field Trip Programs

Sensory Excursion (Pre-K - 2nd Grades)

Would you hold a hedgehog? Would you smell a skunk? Let your senses be your guide as we use the five senses you know (plus learn a few more!) to see, smell, touch and feel your way through Port Discovery’s exhibits. Take home a copy of Port Discovery’s Sensory Card to continue sensory exploration at home.

Force and Motion Commotion (Pre-K - 2nd Grades)

Up and down; stop and start; push and pull! Play your way through the museum as we test the force and motions used to power Port Discovery. Take home your certificate proclaiming you a Port Discovery Museum Movement Expert.

Looking for Shapes (Pre-K - 2nd Grades)

Shapes, shapes, everywhere! Triangle, rectangle, circle, square, plus so many more out there! Everything we interact with everyday has a shape. Explore Port Discovery from top to bottom using your best identification and classification skills on a shape hunt to find shapes big and small, hidden throughout the museum walls. Take home your completed Shapes Scavenger Hunt.

Let Water WOW You! (Pre-K - 5th Grades)

Think outside the box while we discover not just how water provides for us in our daily lives but creates jobs, civilizations and even ecosystems. Have fun while playing with water in new ways and take home a Port Discovery water masterpiece.

Mighty Machines (3rd - 5th Grades)

Search high and low, over more than 3 floors to find all the simple machines and even complex machines that power Port Discovery. Then, are you up to the challenge to recreate your favorite exhibit or create your very own? Take home your completed Simple Machine Scavenger Hunt.

Painted Screens: A Baltimore Folk Art (3rd - 5th Grades)

Lots of characteristics make Baltimore a unique city, but did you know it has its own 200-year-old art medium--painted screens? As you travel though the museum, be inspired by the views from and within the museum to create and take home your own painted screen scenes.

Port Discovery School Field Trip Prices & Information 

  • In-Person Field Trips: Rates begin at $13.00 per person (required school group chaperones enter for free). Additional discounts may be available for Maryland Students.

  • Important: $100 non-refundable deposit is due at the time of booking. The balance is due one (1) week prior to your visit date. Purchase orders and personal checks are not acceptable forms of payment.

  • Rescheduling & Cancellation Policy: To avoid forfeiture of any payments, you must contact Port Discovery Group Sales within one week of your original visit date to reschedule.

Accessibility & Inclusion

Port Discovery is committed to welcoming all guests to experience Port Discovery, and provides a variety of accommodations for visitors with special needs. To discuss and arrange accommodations, please contact us at 410-864- 2727 or email We offer grant funding and accessibility programs to reduce or completely eliminate the cost of admission for group visits to qualifying participants as funds are available. In addition, Port Discovery is ADA accessible.


Group Visits: Are reservations required? How do deposits work?

A $100 non-refundable deposit is due at time of booking. The balance is due one (1) week prior to your scheduled visit date. All major credit cards are accepted and payment can be made using a secure, credit card link via email. Purchase orders and personal checks are not acceptable forms of payment. Please leave ample time for mailing delays when mailing a school check.

Group Visits: What happens if I need to cancel or reschedule?

To avoid forfeiture of any payments, you must contact Group Sales within one (1) week of your original date of visit to reschedule. New rescheduled dates must occur within one calendar year to avoid forfeiture of payment.

Group Visits: What is your attendance policy?

Refunds are not granted for any decrease in attendance. Only the attendance outlined in your contract is guaranteed museum entry. Additional people will not be allowed on the day of your visit. Please contact Group Sales as soon as your attendance increases to determine if the museum has available space to accommodate changes. Attendance substitutions are also prohibited.

Group Visits: If chaperones are Museum Members do we need to pay for them?

Yes. Attending school groups at the Museum is not included in membership benefits as we offer exclusive activities and programming as part of our school field trips. 

Group Visits: What is your policy regarding chaperones?

All chaperones must be 18 years of age or older and meet the required adult to child ratio. Inattentive chaperones and/or disorderly behavior from the group or staff could result in the group’s immediate dismissal from the museum.

Group Visits: Are lunches allowed? What other information should I know for the day of my visit?

You are more than welcome to bring lunch on the day of your visit.  Lunches are scheduled on day of visit and your group may be divided and provided with separate lunch times. All food and beverages must remain inside of your group’s lunch area. We do offer a coat room area and free lockers for storage. The museum is wheelchair and stroller accessible.

Group Visits: What is your inclement weather policy?

If Port Discovery Children’s Museum or your organization is closed are operating on a late schedule, please contact Group Sales immediately to reschedule to the next available date to avoid forfeiture of funds.
