Learn about this living tissue through a variety of books\, games\, puzzles\, and toys.   \nSpooky Maze Adventure | All Night \nOur cardboard maze will feature Halloween themed décor and props. Will you venture through this spooky maze and find all of the hidden items? \nDecorate Your Own Mini Pumpkin | All Night\nUse special paint pens to decorate your selected mini pumpkin. Pumpkins available while supplies last.  \nSpecial Guest: Face Painter Janelle Jones \nAdd a special to you Halloween outfit and get your face painted by local artist Janelle Jones! \nSpecial Guest: Scarecrow Greg May\nOur friend Scarecrow Greg will be roaming throughout the museum with circus tricks\, magic tricks\, and lots of silliness! Watch out! He might even show up ten-feet tall. \nDiscovery Tales: A BOO-seum Story Time | 5:30 PM\nA story time for our younger visitors. Listen to books\, play with instruments\, and participate in scarf play all themed around friendly ghosts\, skeletons\, and monsters.  \nHide and Seek with the Headless Horseman | 7:15 PM\nDo you think you could beat our playful Headless Horseman puppet in a group game of hide and seek? Test your skills while learning about the classic short story\, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”.    \nBubbles and Broomsticks | 5:30 PM & 7:30 PM \nSeashell the Mermaid becomes the Sea Witch of Port Discovery in this bubble blowing bonanza! Come and pop some bubbles and watch as Seashell performs some bubble magic!    \nThe Play Fair Game Show | 6 PM & 8 PM \nA family game show where select players will test their skills to win take-home prizes. Multiple choice questions and physical challenges will be about classic Halloween symbols and traditions.  \nCostume Parade | 6 & 8 PM\nJoin museum staff and the event’s featured characters as we travel around the 1st floor on a musical\, marching parade led by visiting performer Greg May.  \nSummon the Banshee Train: A Sensory Ghost Story | 6:30 PM\nA family friendly\, interactive ghost story that will engage several of your senses. DESCRIPTION:Tis’ the season for a winter break filled with fun and special educational activities from our public programming team!  Port Discovery will be open for extended hours so that children and their caregivers can enjoy a variety of interactive and hands-on activities everyday leading up until our signature event: Noontime New Year. \nWinter Break Hours (December 22nd – 31st)\n\nMonday : Closed\nTuesday – Sunday : 10 AM – 5 PM\n\n\nTuesday\, December 26th\n\nDiscovery Tales – 11 AM : Look\, listen and sing! Gather ’round\, friends. Join us as we sing songs and read stories and the whole family can enjoy.\nDance Party with DJ Wavey Jones – 12 PM & 2 PM : Enter the Playhouse and join a dance party mixed by DJ Wavey Jones. Featuring musical instruments\, props\, and special effects to get kids and adults moving and grooving!\nIce Excavation – 1 PM : Go on a winter ice excavation and find the winter mammals as they are trapped in ice!\n\nWednesday\, December 27th\n\nDiscovery Tales – 11 AM : Look\, listen and sing! Gather ’round\, friends. Join us as we sing songs and read stories and the whole family can enjoy.\nDinocise – 12 PM & 2 PM : Stomp\, chomp\, growl\, and play your way into the amazing world of dinosaurs. An interactive program combining interesting facts with physical movement and dancing. Learn how to be as strong as a dinosaur!\nIce Excavation – 1 PM : Go on a winter ice excavation and find the winter mammals as they are trapped in ice!\n\nThursday\, December 28th\n\nDiscovery Tales – 11 AM : Look\, listen and sing! Gather ’round\, friends. Join us as we sing songs and read stories and the whole family can enjoy.\nCampfire Kids: Winter Sun Fun – 12 PM & 2 PM : Become a Campfire Kid in this interactive show combining live music\, puppetry\, special effects\, and informative tips. Join Mr. Seth and Peake\, Port Discovery’s puppet pet dog\, on their winter holiday vacation! But when they end up at the beach\, help them uncover the fun in changed plans and meeting new friends.\nAdventure Expedition Travel Agency – 1 PM : Join Time Traveler Thomas Tremaine Sawyer as he prepares you to travel back in time to 1922 Egypt.\n\nFriday\, December 29th\n\nDiscovery Tales – 11 AM : Look\, listen and sing! Gather ’round\, friends. Join us as we sing songs and read stories and the whole family can enjoy.\nGee-Pop & The Fizz – 12 PM & 2 PM : A musical\, comedy show featuring everyone’s favorite “Once Upon a Time” grandparents\, Gee-Pop and the Fizz!\nA Flock of Clouds – 1 PM : Explore the water cycle\, the weather and familiar senses with a strolling collection of special\, indoor clouds. Audience participation will bring some sensory based precipitation to guests both nearby and at the base of the SkyClimber.\n\nSaturday\, December 30th\n\nPeake’s on 34th Street: A Holiday Lights Storytime – 11 AM : Peake\, Port Discovery’s puppet pet dog\, wants to see the famous “Miracle on 34th Street” decorations in Hampden’s neighborhood. Journey with him and explore how different communities use lights during the holiday season through songs\, stories\, and dramatic play.\nTales from Time Travelers Society – 12 PM & 2 PM : Renowned time traveler Thomas Tremain Sawyer presents Tales from the Time Traveler Society. Join Thomas in the Playhouse and participate in the story as we act out the many legends and adventures of time travelers.\nTime Crimes: A Time Traveler’s Society Caper – 1 PM :Agents of the D.A.R.K. have stolen the Travellator\, the method in which we travel through time. Their evil intention is to rewrite history for their own greedy benefit. DESCRIPTION:Help Port Discovery ring in 2024 with our annual Noontime New Year celebration!\nTake a family photo in front of our New Year’s Eve backdrop. Make your own confetti cannon or number template. Write or draw your resolution on our Wish Tree. Watch a comedy show and make your own jokes or listen to stories and play musical instruments. Participate in a sensory exploration. And don’t forget to countdown to noon! This year\, we will also offer a sensory friendly countdown.  \nAll programming activities will end by 3 PM. Thank you for your understanding! \nMuseum Wide Activities\n\nNew Year Around the World Scavenger Hunt : A self-guided\, museum-wide scavenger hunt geared for older children and families. Seek out special markers within our exhibits and answer riddles about how different countries celebrate the new year.  \nCountdown to Noontime (Base of the Climber\, 2nd and 3rd Floor Balconies) : Gather at and around the SkyClimber for our communal countdown to 12 noon! Featuring dance music\, guest volunteers\, and a confetti-raining finale. Afterwards\, toast the afternoon with juice and cookies.  \nCountdown to Noontime: Sensory Friendly Version (The Atrium) : A communal countdown designed to accommodate individuals with sensory sensitivities. Featuring low audio games\, no noise confetti\, and a silent countdown with guest volunteers.  \n\n1st Floor Activities\n\nWelcome Aboard Photo Area : Stop by our photo area and take family pictures in front of our New Year’s Eve backdrop. A variety of photo props will be available for kids and their adults. \nSTEAM Confetti Cannons (Studio Workshop) : Make your own confetti and confetti cannon from a variety of recyclable materials. Then test your creation while exploring physics\, engineering\, color\, and shape. \nColorful Countdown Numbers (Studio Workshop) : Select\, color\, and decorate a number template that you can use to help countdown to noon at the museum or the new year at home.\nThe Wish Tree : Write or draw messages and resolutions for the new year to attach to our wish tree. \nTop-Hat Headbands and New Year’s Eve Glasses : Accessorize your New Year’s Eve outfit by making your own mini top-hat headband using party cups or New Year’s Eve glasses using pipe cleaners.  \n“All-Star Cabaret”: Captain Lyra’s StaRRRsearch (The Playhouse) : The All-Star Cabaret is a series of shows featuring the museum’s favorite characters. In “Captain Lyra’s StaRRRsearch”\, the pirate Captain Lyra will re-tell one of her nautical adventures. Starring you! Audience will use props\, prompts and their own unique talents in this interactive\, dramatic arts experience. \n“All-Star Cabaret”: Teddy & Peake’s Comedy Routine (The Playhouse) : The All-Star Cabaret is a series of shows led by some of the museum’s favorite characters. In “Teddy & Peake’s Comedy Routine”\, the puppets Teddy and Peake will perform a comedy show for all-ages. Witness different styles of comedy and get the opportunity to tell some jokes of your own. \n “All-Star Cabaret”: Gee-Pop and the Fizz’s Holiday Spectacular (The Playhouse) : The All-Star Cabaret is a series of shows led by some of the museum’s favorite characters. In “Gee-Pop and the Fizz’s Holiday Spectacular”\, Port Discovery’s “Once Upon a Time” grandparents will sing classic holiday tunes and engage in wacky hijinks.  \n\n2nd Floor Activities\n\nPopsicle Stick Noisemakers : Ring in the new year by constructing your very own noisemaker. How many different types of noisemakers could you make using popsicle sticks? \nSensory Exploration Table : Explore and engage in sensory activities at one of our tables. Discover cool substances you can touch!\nDiscovery Tales (The Oasis) : A story time for our younger visitors. Listen to books\, play musical instruments\, and participate in scarf play. \nWhat Time Is It? : Explore time with a variety of activities. Construct a clock and learn how to tell time and discover the relationship between reading a clock and fractions. Make your own clock book of time!
