Some things to keep in mind:

  • Looking for days and times to visit the Museum when it will be less crowded? Consider visiting us after 1 PM on weekdays, as most field trips conclude and depart the Museum by approximately 1 PM.
  • We cap field trip visitors at 300 children per morning. The Museum’s total capacity is well over that amount - so keep in mind there's lots of room for play and learning even when groups are here!

How Field Trips at the Museum Operate

  • During the school year, field trips are offered at the Museum Tuesdays through Fridays.
  • On Tuesdays, field trip groups are limited to ages five and under. While here, these groups will be exploring all areas of the Museum. We also reserve the third Tuesday of each month to welcome school groups of students with special needs who need a more customized experience.
  • On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, groups visiting us may range in age from Pre-K to 5th grade. On these days, groups will spend a portion of their time in guided experiences taking place in individual exhibit areas. They will also spend a portion of their time exploring the Museum.
  • Every school group is required to have one chaperone to eight students to help ensure groups flow easily.
  • If you have a question or concern at any time during your visit, we encourage you to speak with a Museum Experience Associate in the Port Discovery purple shirts.
