Bring Your Family to Port Discovery Today!
When visiting a new place, city, or country, it is natural for us to be inquisitive, have the urge to engage, and desire to explore our surroundings. It’s the adventurer in us. But what if when you stepped foot into a place, they not only inspired you but encouraged you to climb the highest of heights, explore every nook and cranny, and to use your imagination as you play, learn and dream? This is exactly what Port Discovery encourages children to do on a daily basis!
To make your visit to Port Discovery as stress-free as possible, we’ve compiled some helpful tips to make planning your visit a breeze!
Where is Port Discovery Located?
When you arrive to Baltimore, visit us at 35 Market Place. We are only two blocks from the famous Inner Harbor and a short distance from other main attractions, restaurants, and hotels. For an overview of some of the nearby places you can explore while visiting Port Discovery, visit our website.
When Can I Visit Port Discovery? During the summer months, Port Discovery is open seven days a week, Monday through Saturday from 10AM to 5PM, and from Noon to 5PM on Sundays. Our extended hours of playful learning start on Memorial Day and last through Labor Day.
How long should I plan to stay?
To best experience Port Discovery and each of our exhibits, we suggest that you plan two to three hours for your visit.
When do you suggest visiting if I’d like to avoid crowds or camp groups?
If you’re visiting on a weekend:
If you prefer a quieter playtime, we recommend arriving during the first hour the Museum opens or after 2pm. Sundays are generally less crowded than Saturdays.
If you’re visiting on a weekday:
During the summer, camp groups may visit the Museum throughout the day. If you are concerned about group crowds, please call or email the Director of Guest Services, Tuesday – Saturday between 9am – 5:30pm, at 410-864-2650 or email@example.com at least 24 hours prior to your visit to find out how many groups are booked for the day. You may also want to visit on Mondays in July and August which are dedicated Family Play Days. Port Discovery does not book any external camp groups on Mondays in July and August.
How can I find out what’s happening at the Museum when I’m planning to visit?
Stay in the know about all of the fun, cool, and exciting things we have going on at the museum! Visit our website and blog to find out all the ways that your family can play and save throughout the year! We’d also suggest signing up for our weekly e-newsletter and following Port Discovery on social media. You’ll find us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter!
What will it cost to visit Port Discovery?
Admission to Port Discovery is $15.95 for each individual ages two and older. Guests under the age of two and Members enter for free. A great way to save on admission prices is to sign up for one of our Museum Membership packages. This is a great option for families who plan to visit the Museum two or more times in any given year.
Your admission costs help Port Discovery, a non-profit institution; fulfill our mission to provide purposeful, powerful play to children both inside of the Museum and outside of our walls. Your support of the Museum provides enriching life experiences to children, families, and school groups that may not otherwise be able to afford to come to the Museum.
Where can I park when visiting Port Discovery?
The Harbor Park Garage is located at 55 Market Place, Baltimore, MD, 21202. This is directly next to Port Discovery with easy access from both Lombard Street or Market Place. Harbor Park Garage offers discounted parking most days the Museum is open.
Once your little ones have explored the endless exhibits to their heart’s desire, please request a validation ticket upon your exit from the Museum to take advantage of the discounted rate. You can also request it as you enter the museum. We’re sorry, but Port Discovery does not manage nor provide refunds for parking at the Harbor Park Garage.
Can we re-enter Port Discovery if we leave the Museum for a quick break?
Yes! Your admission to Port Discovery is valid all day on the day of your entry. To ensure the safety of our guests, Port Discovery operates on a wristband system. We provide families with the same wristband to make sure that children are only leaving with their parents/caregivers. Your wristband will allow you re-entry to the Museum all day.
What food options does Port Discovery have?
Port Discovery does not offer a restaurant or food options within the Museum, but there are several nearby food options/restaurants right outside of the Museum within walking distance. You can also bring food into the Museum and eat it in our Pier eating area. One of our partners, Power Plant Live!, offers a Children Eat Free! Program at two of their restaurants – Charm City Pizza and Leinekugel’s – with a paid adult entrée. The program is offered Monday through Friday 11AM-4PM during the summer months (hours and offer subject to change).
Food and drinks are not permitted inside the Museum exhibits. There is a designated eating area which you may eat your lunch or snacks. Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no access to refrigerators or microwave
