Celebrate Black History Month With Your Child at Port Discovery Children's Museum!

Let it Shine Black History Month

Children and Families are invited to join in Let It Shine - Black History Month Celebrations at Port Discovery. 

Bring your little light down to Port Discovery, and join us as we “let it shine” in celebration of African American history and culture! Every weekend in the month of February will feature talented local performers, including spoken word artists, STEP dance group, and traditional drumming performances and more! Also, don’t miss out on the chance to meet youth entrepreneurs and get inspired by their story of self-empowerment. 

Weekend of February 1

Saturday, February 1:

11:00AM - 12:00PM: Meet DJ Princess Christionaan 8-year old DJ located in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) Metropolitan area! Her music ranges from clean hip-hop, r&b, gospel, go-go, and her favorite, jersey club. Enjoy meeting DJ Princess Christona, dancing to some fun tunes and asking any questions you have about her life as a child entrepreneur.
1:00PM - 1:30PM: Bust a move with Faza Fam Family Jam as you explore music, dancing and movement with the entire family during this interactive, lively and upbeat program!
2:00PM - 3:30PM: Learn about specically trained hearing dogs, service dogs, Veterans with PTSD and therapy dogs with FIDOS for Freedom! Enjoy interacting with these talented pups and learn about the life-saving services they provide for their caretakers!
3:00PM - 4:00PM: Test your knowledge in the Museum-floor game show, Show What Your Know: African American Inventors! Match and learn about famous inventions from African American men and women throughout history. Play with others for the chance to win multiple prizes!

3:00PM - 4:00PM: Test your knowledge in the Museum-floor game show, Show What Your Know: African American Inventors! Match and learn about famous inventions from African American men and women throughout history. Play with others for the chance to win multiple prizes!

Sunday, February 9:

2:00PMFrerés Branchiaux Candle Co. is an artisanal candle company created and managed by 3 brothers, Collin (13), Ryan (10), and Austin Gill (8). Port Discovery will be hosting the Gill brothers for a candle making demonstration followed by Q&A.

Admission is free with museum entry, which is $17.95 for individuals one and up. Members and children younger than one are admitted for free.
