What are your plans for October 2? We hope you’re planning on grinning or laughing, because it’s World Smile Day!
Have you heard of artist Harvey Ball? Maybe not, but you’ve definitely encountered his most famous work: the smiley face!
Along with inventing our happiest written symbol, Ball also established World Smile Day. Held on the first Sunday each October, the goal of the day is "Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile!” And learn more about World Smile Day here!
This World Smile Day, accomplish Ball’s goal by putting a smile on your face — literally! With our mouths blocked by face masks, it’s sometimes tough to see if other people are smiling or frowning. Make a smiley face face mask, so that everyone will see your joy for the day!
Smiley Face Face Mask
Blank face mask/bandana
Fabric markers (make sure they are non-toxic)
Put the face mask on to see how it fits. Take a picture or look in the mirror so your kid sees where their mouth is.
Draw a big smile onto the mask!
Add other fun touches: a mustache, a tongue sticking out, or anything that your imagination comes up with!
Decorate masks for the rest of the family too!
