Frequently Asked Questions & Additional Information

  • Why are you changing to timed play sessions?
Port Discovery is currently operating at a significantly reduced capacity (approximately 25% capacity) so that our visitors can explore the Museum in an environment that allows for plenty of space and social distancing. Many of our current dates are selling out, meaning that many children and families are unable to experience the joy of play and learning at the Museum. So that more families can enjoy the Museum – and so that Port Discovery can continue to thrive as a non-profit organization that serves our community – we are creating two daily play sessions so that we can welcome more visitors to the Museum while still maintaining very limited total capacity and room to allow for safe physical distancing.

  • How will timed play sessions work?
Port Discovery will offer a morning play session (10 AM – 1 PM) and an afternoon play session (2 PM – 5 PM each day that the Museum is open to the public. Each play session will be open to less than 400 guests per session in order to make it easy for guests to spread out, explore and maintain physical distancing.  The Museum will close for an hour in between sessions, allowing Museum staff to reset and prepare the Museum for the next fans of play!
Important: You may arrive at any time during your reserved play session and will need to exit promptly by the end of your session. Purchased general admission tickets and member reservations will be valid for one Play Session (morning or afternoon) per day only. Please remember that advance tickets/reservations are required for ALL play sessions; in-person tickets are not available at this time. Please check www.PortDiscovery.org/visit to purchase/reserve tickets, and for information on Museum hours, location, parking and other tips to help you prepare for your visit.

  • Why is the museum closing in the middle of the day?
The Museum is closing for an hour in between play sessions to allow Museum staff to reset and prepare the Museum for the next fans of play.

  • What If I arrive late to the Play Session I purchased/reserved tickets for?
You may still enter and play even if you arrive later than planned! You may arrive at any time during your reserved play session and will need to exit promptly by the end of your session.  If you are running late and need to reschedule your visit instead, please reply to the email confirmation  you received when  you purchased your tickets or call the Port Discovery Box Office at 410.864.2744 on the day of your visit and request to reschedule your visit to another date and/or time, subject to availability and a rescheduling fee of $5.00. Visits cannot be rescheduled after your purchased/reserved ticket visit date has passed.

  • What if I need to reschedule?
If you need to reschedule your visit instead, please reply to the email confirmation you received when you purchased your tickets or call the Port Discovery Box Office at 410.864.2744 on the day of your visit and request to reschedule your visit to another date and/or time, subject to availability and a rescheduling fee of $5.00. Visits cannot be rescheduled after your purchased/reserved ticket visit date has passed.

  • Can I leave the Museum and reenter on the same day?
Yes, you may exit and re-enter the Museum during the Play Session that you have purchased/reserved tickets for. If you exit the Museum, please be prepared to show your receipt to re-enter. Please remember that you will not be able to use your tickets to re-enter during a later play session.

  • Is there a limit on how many tickets I can reserve/purchase?
We ask that you purchase or reserve tickets for just one play session per day so that the many other children and families who are also eager to play and experience Port Discovery will have an opportunity to do so!
