Port Discovery Hosted Wellness Saturdays Throughout the Month of February 2022

Thank you, CareFirst!

Port Discovery is ever grateful to CareFirst for their generous support of the Museum’s Wellness Saturdays that took place in February 2022. For four consecutive Saturdays, Port Discovery hosted a suite of health, wellness, and family fun activities throughout the museum, including all-day free COVID-19 vaccine clinics, dance and movement programming, and pediatrician Q&A.

Pediatricians from Johns Hopkins Medicine

Here are some of the amazing things that happened during Wellness Saturdays:

  •  In partnership with Baltimore City Health Department and Johns Hopkins Medicine, 119 vaccine shots were administered via the in-site mobile health clinic, with 42% of shots to children ages 5-11.
  • All of these children and adults received a free ticket to play, learn and explore at Port Discovery.
  • The Museum hosted a Johns Hopkins Hospital pediatrician on-site each weekend to answer questions and concerns from parents and caregivers.
  • Choreographer and dancer Jordan Hollingsworth was the movement artist-in-residence for the month, leading Museum guests in a fun and energizing movement program every Saturday morning.

In addition to the Wellness Saturdays free ticket distribution, in partnership with Baltimore City Health Department, Port Discovery provided 5000 tickets for distribution to vaccine clinics locations across Baltimore City, to be given to any child or adult who receives a COVID-19 vaccine.

Port Discovery is so proud of its success with the 2022 Wellness Month. As one of the anchor cultural institutions in Baltimore City, and a top children’s museum regionally, we understand our responsibility as a resource for the children and families of Baltimore. 2022 Wellness Month is one part of our work in promoting community health and well-being, encouraging Covid-19 vaccinations for all who are able to receive one, and being a safe, fun, learning space for children and families to come to as we emerge after 18 months of pandemic protocols.
