Preschool and Kindergarten Registration Checklist

We’ve teamed up with our partners at Baltimore City Public Schools to share tips and resources with you to help you prepare for preschool and kindergarten – including registration.

Here is a handy checklist of items you’ll need to prepare so that you can register your little one for preschool or kindergarten programs with Baltimore City Public Schools:

Registering for Pre-K
When to register: If your child will turn four by September 1, 2018, you’ll want to register for pre-k this spring! Please keep in mind that space is limited and sometimes, the program at a neighborhood school fills quickly. Families are then offered places at other locations as close as possible to home.  Here is helpful information from Baltimore City Public Schools on registering for Pre-K:

Registration Steps:

  1. Locate your school: To locate your neighborhood school, visit www.baltimorecityschools.org
  2. Complete the pre-k registration form. You can find the form here in this Registration Guide.
  3. Gather all of the paperwork required for registration, including:
    1. Birth Certificate or other government-issued document indicating birth date.
    2. Proof of guardianship, if necessary.
    3. Immunization record (for more about immunizations, contact your school).
    4. Proof of current physical examination with Immunization Certificate and Blood Lead Testing Certificate (contact your school for the required form).
    5. At least two proofs of primary residence (e.g. water, gas/electric, or telephone bill; verifiable lease agreement, rent receipt or mortgage statement; bank statement).
    6. Individualized Education Program (IEP), if eligible.
    7. Lead test certificate.
  4. On or after April 16, take the registration form and all necessary paperwork with you to your neighborhood school. Pre-K classes fill up quickly, so plan to register your child early!

Remember: If you are interested in a charter school, please contact that school directly to find out about its registration process.

Registering for Kindergarten
When to register: If your child will turn five by September 1, 2018, you’ll want to register for pre-k this spring! If your child will turn five between September 2 and October 15, they must be accepted through the early admission process. Children who turn five after October 15 must wait until the following school year to enter kindergarten.
