Sleepover at the best place for kids in Baltimore!

Take your brownies, girl scouts, cub scouts, boy scouts or youth group on a journey they'll never forget!

Watch as they explore, learn through imaginative play, and experience hands-on, interactive Arts & Culture or STEM programming as they bond! They can journey through ancient Egypt, climb a 3-story tree house, learn about the Wonders of Water - and find out what happens in the Museum at night! Overnight Adventures combines the fun and excitement of exploring the great indoors of Port Discovery with hands-on, educational workshops!

IMPORTANT: Starting on January 2, 2019, Port Discovery will begin construction of two immersive, state-of-the-art new exhibits: a four-story SkyClimber and a massive Port Exhibit featuring all the parts of the working port.  Find information on construction plans, ways to play while construction is underway, answers to frequently asked questions, and more at www.PortDiscovery.org/Construction

Adventures in Code: Robot Dance School

2019 Overnight Adventure dates and programs will be posted by approximately September 30, 2018. The following program is an example of a program we hosted in 2018. Please feel free to reach out with questions ahead of us sharing confirmed programs for 2019. 

What is coding? How smart are computers? What happens if you tell a robot to do something it cannot do? The answers to all of these questions and more will be explored during our Adventures in Code: Robot Dance Class. This is a fun, interactive, and very active program, with silly videos, a dancing teacher and a whole army of robots. An engaging educator will teach kids some basic programming concepts, including events, commands, and error handling through our “Robot Dance Language” (RDL).

BristleBots/Vibrobots
A vibrobot is perhaps one of the quickest and easiest bots that you can build. In almost no time, participants will be able to make a fun, little bot, test it out, and race it against other bots on a special vibrobot obstacle course.

Stop Motion Animation

Wonder kids, animate! Stop-motion animation is a fun, and easy way for kids to learn a bit about animation. This activity includes:
  • Planning, scripting, and storyboarding the animation
  • Creating figures, backgrounds, and set pieces
  • Capturing the animation
  • Adding audio
  • Adding titles
  •  Editing the animation
Ozobots (5 & up)
Learning how to control Ozobot is easy, through color codes with just regular paper and four primary color markers.

A vibrobot is perhaps one of the quickest and easiest bots that you can build. In almost no time, participants will be able to make a fun, little bot, test it out, and race it against other bots on a special vibrobot obstacle course.

 

Dash & Dot

Participants will learn about robotics and basic fundamental coding and problem-solving skills while having fun, programming and operating a Dash or Dot Robot, in teams of three. Dash is a real robot, charged and ready to play out of the box. Responding to voice, navigating objects, dancing, and singing. Dot is a clever little robot with multiple sensors and a quirky personality.

Silly Circus Science

Join Port Discovery’s professional knucklehead and silly circus scientist Gregory May as he takes you on a wacky tour of the scientific principles that make circus skills work. This hands-on experience explores juggling, rolling globe, lasso spinning, feather balancing, and much more—all within an atmosphere of play!

General Policies

Cancellation and No Show Policy

Please remember that Port Discovery does not grant refunds for cancellations or no-shows.  If someone in your group cannot attend the program, you may substitute another member from your organization.  Registration fees may also be transferred to another group/troop in your organization. Adults may be substituted for children, and vice-versa.

Inclement Weather Policy

In the event of inclement weather, please call the Port Discovery Security Office at (410) 864-2700 to check the status of your event. A decision regarding the event will be determined by 2:00 p.m.

Chaperone Policy

Campers are to be chaperoned at all times.

Food & Drink Policy

No food or drink is permitted inside the exhibit areas. Food and drink must be consumed in designated areas only. Port Discovery will provide an evening snack and breakfast for each person. You may bring additional non-perishable snacks. Please call ahead if concerned with food allergies.

Tobacco, Alcohol & Drug Policy

Port Discovery is a smoke-free facility.No alcohol or drugs are allowed at any time when visiting the museum. Smoking is not permitted outside after 7:00 pm.

What to Bring

Clothing & Sleeping Gear

  • Sleeping bag, pillow, and foam sleeping pad
  • Air mattress (Twin or full-size air mattresses only, please. Cots are not permitted).
  • Minimal toiletries (hairbrush/comb, toothbrush, toothpaste, wash cloth).
  • Sleep mask and/or ear plugs
  • Comfortable, layered clothing and shoes.
  • Supplies should be packed in one bag, labeled with campers name and group. Suitcases are discouraged.
  • Emergency contacts for all campers, as well as permission slips and health forms.

Getting Ready for Your Overnight Adventure

Arrival Time & Registration

Please plan to arrive no later than 6:00 p.m. on the date of your Overnight Adventure. Registration will take approximately 20-30 minutes, and must be completed by a designated group leader. Group/troop leaders will receive an orientation once the entire group arrives. Please allow ample time to drop off, park and register.

The program starts promptly at 7:00 p.m.  If you arrive later, you will miss formal orientation.  In the event that you are late, the Overnights Coordinator will give you a brief walk through of your sleep site and answer any questions that you might have.

 

Parking & Drop-Off

You may drop off and pick up all campers at the front entrance of the museum via Market Place. There is no parking at this location at any time and it is strictly a drop-off and pick-up area.

To receive the discounted Overnight Adventure parking rate, please park at the Harbor Park Garage located at 55 Market Place, directly next to the Museum.
