Visit Port Discovery during Spring Break (April 4th - 19th) to enjoy hands-on, educational activities and performances the entire family will enjoy! We have tons of fun, playful exhibits and activities to explore while you’re here – and the extra bonus: you and your little learner will benefit from learning and educational opportunities along the way.
Explore springs, science and so much more during Springing in Spring: Spring Break Week presented by WR Grace at Port Discovery Children’s Museum! Enjoy playful, engaging and educational activities including theater performances, art projects, special guests, and more!
Extended Hours during Spring Break:

Monday - Friday: 10AM - 5PM

An interactive, one-man performance featuring different performing arts styles. Port Discovery’s thespian Derek Cooper will play Emcee Raven, along with several aditional performers, and showcase their spring courtship rituals through music and dance!
Selected volunteers from the audience will perform alongside the characters and demonstrate their own talents!
Help tell the story of The Three Little Pigs in a new way – with a bear, and the springtime returning! In this interactive show, children can help tell the story of The Three Little Pigs and celebrate the return of spring!
Special StudioWorkshop Projects - Available Daily throughout Spring Break
Based on a bookmaking process used to create pop-up books, this simple gluing and folding technique will allow children and families to create their own functional spring! As children continue adding paper, the spring will expand, creating a fun, functional slinky.
Ribbet! This simple folding process will allow children and families to create paper frogs that actually hop! This project teaches the most basic concepts surrounding the ways in which a mechanical spring functions.
Enjoy a new way to paint! Children and families will wrap springs around sponges which they will then use to paint. This nontraditional painting activity will not only introduce families to experimental painting process, but will serve as a fun and easy introduction to the way in which a mechanical spring can function!
Special Performances & Activities
Celebrate the arrival of spring with Pam the Kindersinger! Being by singing and dancing together to It's Spring to celebrate the earth waking up, then dance to the Garden Boogie and so much more! Kiddos ages 5 and under will enjoy this lively and fun interactive performance!
Springs, vortexes, oh my! Join a wacky scientist as he performs visual experiments that educate kiddos on topics like air, weather and springs! See things like air springs, Vortex fog springs and the sound of springs. Kiddo volunteers will be used throughout the show!
Turtles, snakes, bunnies, oh my! Enjoy meeting (and learning about!) new furry and scaly friends with Wildlife Adventures!
Machines make the work in our lives easier, and even the most complicated machines can be broken down into basic parts. Join Circus Greg on a journey through the six simple machines and how he uses them to help him do his circus tricks. Then, help him put them together into one giant, wonderful Rube Goldberg contraption that slams a pie into his face! Over a dozen child and adult volunteers will use levers, pulleys, wheels, ramps, wedges, screws—and yes, springs!—to get the job done! Juggling, unicycling, pies in the face, and mechanical engineering—what could go wrong?!
Come grab a picture and a bouncy high-five with our friendly walking spring master! He’ll be “slink-ing” around the museum from 10:30 to 12:30, and you won’t be able to miss him—he’s ten feet tall!
