Volunteer and Internship Opportunities

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are an essential part of Port Discovery Children's Museum. Whether you’re working directly with visitors in one of our hands-on exhibits or working behind the scenes on an upcoming event or exhibit opening, there are a variety of opportunities to volunteer and make a difference in the lives of Port Discovery visitors.

How can you help?

Guest  Services

Work directly with visitors as they explore the many interactive exhibit and program areas.

Work on projects based in education, programs, exhibits, administration, or development.

Assist with installation and de-installation of exhibitions, repairs, maintenance or cleaning of the Museum and its facility.

Community Groups

From civic groups like AmeriCorps to Johns Hopkins' fraternities and sororities to corporate groups, Port Discovery provides a team building experience where groups can help the community through a variety of volunteer opportunities.

Corporate Groups

Volunteering with your coworkers is a great way to team-build while making a difference in the lives of children. We offer volunteer opportunities where your team can work directly with children, on preparing activities for our guests to enjoy, Museum improvements and much more.

Special Events

Assist with annual evening and daytime events. We annually host many exciting events where your group could lend a hand and receive a rewarding experience working with children and their families.  Some of these events include:

  • Noontime New Year Masquerade Bash
  • "I Have a Dream" Weekend honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
  • Play It Forward, our annual fundraiser
  • Countdown to Kindergarten
  • BOOseum Bash
  • Hispanic Heritage Celebration
  • Chinese New Year, and much more!

Internships are often available throughout the school year with the Exhibits, Development, and Marketing, Programs and Education departments.  Opportunities are limited and are based on departmental needs.
