5 Tips for Visiting Port Discovery This Summer

Tips, tricks and hacks to make your visit to the new and improved Port Discovery even better!

Get ready for a boatload of fun!

Go on a family adventure like never before this summer at Port Discovery Children's Museum! Big changes have happened at Port Discovery over the last few months and we want to make sure our visitors can have the best experience possible when checking out all the new fun things to see and do!

1. Take Advantage of Family Play Mondays

Family Play Monday - Mondays at Port Discovery!

To improve everyone’s experience during the summer months, Port Discovery will be offering Family Play Mondays (where groups take the day off from the Museum) each Monday the Museum is open this summer! Enjoy visiting and exploring the Museum without groups in attendance.

We are also enhancing the group experience – and creating more space for fun and learning – by offering groups a separate entrance, eating area, and guided activities located in The Atrium at Port Discovery. Groups will also explore the Museum via guided activities led by Port Discovery Staff Members.

2. Check Out Details on The Port Exhibit

Engine Room in The Port Exhibit at Port Discovery

Here’s something you can’t miss: A GIANT ship in the Museum! In The Port, little learners can role-play as the ship’s captain, sailors, navigators and engineers as they explore the seas, discover how products make their way around the world, and work together to move, stack and explore what’s inside shipping containers. Operate a gantry crane, learn how to navigate a container ship, and more!

Through this hands-on, massive new exhibit, little learners and their families can learn more about the Port of Baltimore – and the many jobs and products that make up one of the world’s most active ports!

3. Check Out Details on The SkyClimber (socks required!)

Chessie's Grotto - Toddler Play Area

Encourage your children to build confidence, learn problem solving skills, build motor skills, and have fun as they try their hand at climbing the SkyClimber(And get in on the fun as you climb along with them!)

This new, impressive climber is designed to build confidence – and while we anticipate lots of visitors will make it to the tippy-top, it’s perfectly okay if they make it part of the way up! We encourage adults to climb along with their children – and to encourage them to go up – or down. If needed, Port Discovery staff will assist climbers via staff-only entrance points. We recommend the exhibit for ages 5+, but you are the best judge of your children’s interest and ability.

Please NoteSocks (but not shoes!) are required to climb. We'll provide them to borrow or to buy, and you're more than welcome to use your own.Socks (but not shoes!) are required to climb. We'll provide them to borrow or to buy, and you're more than welcome to use your own.
