Baltimore, MD (January 20, 2023)– Port Discovery Children’s Museum has welcomed two new features in the museum: a micro market and a gift shop/book store, Snug Books at Port Discovery. These new additions come as the starting point of exciting new renovations for the museum, including new Party Rooms, a new theatre and interactive stage exhibit, and a complete overhaul of our Oasis exhibit- all happening throughout 2023.

The Micro Market, powered by Avanti Markets, was installed on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 and opened on Thursday January 19, 2023. It is self- checkout and carries to-go food, similar to traditional convenience stores. Food options include sandwiches, snacks and drinks (including coffee and hot chocolate!) There are also available microwaves for any food that may need heating up. The Micro Market replaced the vending machines that were previously located in the eating area.

Snug Bookstore at Port Discovery will officially open on Saturday, February 4th but currently has some books and merchandise available for purchase. The store follows museum hours and is open to the public. The new store will carry books for all ages and a variety of gifts, including book related items, cards, games, puzzles, and more. Over the next couple of months, the store will also begin to carry Port Discovery branded merchandise and more museum themed merchandise.  Snug Books is a local family, minority, and female-owned bookstore currently located in the Hamilton-Lauraville area of Baltimore, on Harford Road. The shop at Port Discovery will be their new satellite location.

Port Discovery’s President and CEO, Carter Polakoff is excited about these new additions to the museum: “Our goal always is for Port Discovery to be viewed as a beautiful, clean, safe, and welcoming space for both children as well as the grownups who care for them, and we are excited to be able to upgrade our facilities with these two new offerings. We want visitors of all ages to return throughout the year because they not only have fun, but because they feel a sense of belonging and joy when they play in our museum, and we truly believe these two enhancements will add to the visitor experience when they are here in the museum.” Polakoff wants everyone to know that this is just the tip of the iceberg for Port Discovery, and there will be more fun exhibits and plans to follow in the next couple of months.
