Mark your calendars for Port Discovery’s new homeschool offerings!
Join us for a day of excitement, exploration, and learning, all by the way of play! Embark on a self-guided journey throughout the three floors of fun Port Discovery has to offer and tap into special workshops offered just for our homeschoolers on these special days.
*Homeschool Days and workshops are not drop-off programs. Children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the museum and within special workshops.
*Each Homeschool Day features two identical workshop sessions, offered at 10:30 AM and 1:30 PM. Participants should register for one session only.
Pricing
- General Admission Tickets are $15 per person and include all day admission to explore the museum as well as one workshop.
- Members’ tickets are $7.50 per person, which includes access to one homeschool day workshop at a discounted price as part of Port Discovery’s exclusive membership benefits.
Additional discounts cannot be applied to our Homeschool special program tickets for either adults or children. Additional tickets may not be purchased with memberships or other discounts.
Map Detectives
January 30, 2026
Explore the globe and navigate nearby with a multitude of maps. Students will learn the different uses for a map through examining maps, using them to navigate, and creating their own. Go on an exciting adventure in this hands-on workshop that focuses on geography, navigation, and creativity!
Chemical Reactions
February 27, 2026
Discover what makes a chemical reaction happen through hands-on experimentation. Students will explore what chemical reactions are (and are not!) by predicting outcomes, observing changes, and testing reactions like acid-base reactions, polymerization, and decomposition. Young scientists will even create a take-home chemistry experiment to continue the discovery at home in this engaging, curiosity-driven workshop focused on scientific thinking and exploration.
What a Colorful World

Nature is bursting with color: rich green leaves, dazzling feathers, eye-catching butterfly wings. Students will explore the science behind color in the natural world by observing unique objects found in nature and by creating their own artwork using paint made from food and spices. Take a closer look at all the color our world has to offer with this hands–on experience that combines scientific exploration and artistic creativity!
Sand Art
April 24, 2026
Sand art is an art form that has been seen throughout different, international cultures. Students will learn and use different artistic techniques while also exploring the types and composition of sand. Combine visual art, science, social studies, and fine motor skills in this sensory sand experience!
Puppets
May 29, 2026
Discover the magic of puppetry in this fun and creative workshop! Students will design and build their own unique puppets using found materials. They will explore how to create a character and bring them to life. Join us for an imaginative journey into the world of puppetry!
