Exciting renovation projects began this month at Port Discovery Children’s Museum! Construction will run from February 2023 through the Summer of 2023. The projects will not interfere with the ability to play in the museum, as Port Discovery will be open as normal throughout our construction timeline.
This plan includes renovated bathrooms on the third floor and in the Atrium, new birthday party rooms, and a new theater exhibit. All spaces will be completed by Summer 2023. As you visit the museum during this period, be aware that the bathrooms on the top floor will be closed, and you will need to use the second or first floor restrooms.
When all is done, the renovated party rooms will include more space, a kitchenette, and bright colorful décor! Parties are still currently available, but bookings are limited. If you would like to host your child’s party at Port Discovery, be sure to fill out an information request form as soon as possible.
The Playhouse at Port Discovery – the new theater exhibit- will be a fully immersive and interactive space. The new design transforms this area into a child-sized, front- and back-of house theatrical play space that will serve as both a hands-on exploratory exhibit and a functional theater for programming.
The renovation includes a scenic stage, costume and props area, puppet theater, an interactive tech booth and more! – all of which are sized for young children and invite dramatic, participatory play. Dramatic play engages virtually every part of a child’s developing brain, helping hone a range of critical developmental skills including creativity, coordination, oral language development, early math development, concentration and social-emotional skills.
