Looking back on FY2025, one word defines the year: momentum.
This was a year of donors and partners saying yes – to Port Discovery as a hub for joyful learning, a training ground for educators, and a place that strengthens families and communities.
At April’s Play It Forward, we shared news of two transformative gifts: $2.5 million from the Lilly Endowment to create Joyful Steps, a new character-building exhibit, and $500,000 from the Sherman Family Foundation to expand the At Play Learning Institute (APLI). APLI has already become a statewide model, serving 239 parents and caregivers, 273 children, and 92 educators this year through 17 cohorts, with more to come next year!
We also advanced the first phase of our Master Infrastructure Renewal Plan. Construction began on Galactic Builders, a space-themed STEAM adventure, and Skies, a sensory-friendly environment inspired by the rhythm of the sky. Design work began on the next wave of exhibits that will continue into 2026, including Joyful Steps, a teaching kitchen, and a new fish-inspired climber in the Atrium.
Everyday impact remained at the core of FY2025: nearly 200,000 visitors enjoyed the museum, supported by programs like free admission for military families, discounted school visits, $5 PlayMakers tickets, and $10 Community Days. And we closed the year with $2.5 million allocated from the Governor’s capital budget for critical renovations to our building.
FY2025 was a year of progress, promise, and preparation. None of it would have been possible without our Board, staff, funders, and YOU—the families and educators who believe in the power of play. Together, we’ve built the momentum that will carry Port Discovery into its next exciting chapter. Thank you!
