Curious George: Let's Get Curious! Opens

Letting curiosity and inquiry be their guides, visitors explore familiar buildings and locales from the Curious George™ book series and television show on PBS KIDS in Curious George™: Let's Get Curious! The exhibit presents key concepts in science, math and engineering, which are woven and layered throughout the exhibit. Activities invite visitors to learn like George-through direct experience and problem solving!

Upon entry to the exhibit, visitors find themselves on an urban street and are transported to the neighborhood in which Curious George lives with his friend, The Man with the Yellow Hat. The show's supporting characters appear throughout the exhibit, helping to provide context, deliver parent and take-home messages, and inject humor. Areas and activities have multi-generational appeal and include an apartment building, sidewalk produce stand, construction site, park, mini golf area, rocket, farm and museum retrospective.

The exhibit will run May 17, 2014 through February 6, 2015.

Talking About Tots

Dr. Christine Hess, Psychologist at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, will present Lullaby and Goodnight: Fostering Sleep for Infants and Toddlers. She will discuss helpful ways to foster sleep for infants and toddlers.  Sleep deprivation is one of the toughest challenges that parents face when their children do not sleep well.  Fostering good sleep habits when children are very young is a skill that will benefit them throughout the lifespan.  We will discuss bedtime routines, techniques for putting your child to bed, as well as sleep training to help children sleep through the night.

Talking about Tots
In this latest installment of our series Talking About Tots, Dr. Eve LeBarton, Developmental Psychologist at the Kennedy Krieger Institute, will present “Do you see what I’m saying? Nonverbal communication in infants and toddlers.”

Children’s first words illustrate the beginning of an exciting world of communicating with those around them. However, children also do a lot of communicating nonverbally. Learn the many ways that infants and toddlers use their eyes, hands, and body to communicate with those around them from before they can speak and into toddlerhood. There will also be a discussion about things parents can do to encourage nonverbal communication and potential benefits of gesturing.
