Available Positions

Early Childhood and Literacy Specialist

As a member of the Education team, the Early Childhood and Literacy Specialist works to provide engaging, high quality content in Port Discovery’s Early Childhood and Literacy-related programs.  The Specialist researches, creates, implements, and evaluates innovative educational activities, programs, and events for young children (birth through age 10) and their families that support Port Discovery’s commitment to offer innovative, interactive, playful and engaging learning experiences. In addition to leading, facilitating, and engaging in direct programs with museum visitors, the Specialist conducts trainings for educational programs, engages in education outreach programs, supports grant-related work as it relates to Early Childhood and Literacy, and develops and maintains pertinent community partnerships that will enhance the Museum offerings and mission.

The Workweek for this position is currently Sunday through Thursday but is subject to change. Scheduled work hours will be adjusted according to department/museum needs. Participation in special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays will be necessary.

Education Programming & Events Specialist

As a member of the Education Department, the Programming and Events Specialist works to provide engaging, high quality content in Port Discovery’s programs. The Specialist researches, creates, implements, and evaluates innovative educational performances, activities, programs, and events for young children (birth through age 10) and their families that support Port Discovery’s commitment to offer innovative, interactive, playful and engaging learning experiences. In addition to leading, facilitating, and engaging in direct programs with museum visitors, the Specialist holds primary administrative and logistical responsibility for programs and events for the museum’s daily guests.

The Workweek for this position is currently Tuesday through Saturday but is subject to change. Scheduled work hours will be adjusted according to department/museum needs. Participation in special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays will be necessary.

Facilities Technician

Port Discovery Children’s Museum is seeking a motivated and energetic Facilities Technician.  The Facilities Technician will ensure that the Museum operates at a high level of operational readiness that delivers a quality guest experience.  The Technician assists with construction and routine maintenance of all building systems, general repair of exhibit activities and components, control systems, plumbing and light electrical work on the facility and grounds.  Must keep inventory and actively replace lighting as needed. Must know and adhere to safety protocol in handling machinery, electrical equipment and power tools. Occasionally, the Facilities Technician will need to drive the company van for repair or other related events and must be able to operate a man-lift to 35 feet.

Scheduled work-days may vary from week to week. Working special events, weekends, evenings and holidays will be necessary.

Part-Time Museum Experience Associate

As a vital part of the Guest Services Department and Port Discovery team, Museum Experience Associates are responsible for providing guests with an excellent, memorable experience, stellar customer service, and supporting the Museum’s mission and educational philosophy. As a member of our team, you’ll support playful learning and discovery through meaningful interaction with children and adults, ignite imaginations, and promote the power of play in children through hands-on experiences.

Port Discovery is seeking individuals who are:

  • Energetic, enthusiastic, creative, dependable and flexible
  • Passionate about play and making a difference in children’s lives and the community
  • Comfortable engaging with parents and children of multiple age groups
  • Calm under pressure and have excellent communication skills

This is an entry-level position, with a starting rate of $11.00 per hour. The position offers up to 29 hours per week; we can provide convenient schedules and shifts for college students.

Part-Time Box Office Associate

We are currently looking for talented, friendly and outgoing Box Office Associates.  This is a part time position offering about 20 – 25 hours weekly, and requires availability to work on SATURDAYS and SUNDAYS.

The Box Office Associate will serve as the first point of contact for all guests who visit the museum and is responsible for upholding the highest degree of customer service. Responsibilities include greeting and directing guests, selling museum admissions, as well as maintaining and updating the ticketing software database.  We are looking for someone that is outgoing, likes interacting with people, and has good attention to detail.  Additional responsibilities will include soliciting and managing group sales via the phone.  The successful candidate must have the ability to anticipate and respond quickly and effectively and to enact sound judgment in respect to guest needs, questions, and expectations.

Exhibits Intern

Got Mad Sewing Skills?  Show them off!  

Port Discovery’s Exhibit’s Department is seeking a Volunteer/ Intern to assist in the creation and up-keep of all soft props.

Ideal candidate will have intermediate sewing skills, works well independently, and available during the workweek (Monday through Friday).  Creativity is a must.  This position can be on a volunteer basis or a committed internship.  We are flexible.
