Grant Writer & Manager

We are seeking a detailed and mission-oriented individual to join our Development team as our Grant Writer & Manager

In this role, you will help ensure financial support of the organization by developing and implementing a strategic fundraising plan to identify, cultivate relationships with, and generate grants to increase revenue for the museum.  The successful candidate must have excellent communication and presentation skills, the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and a demonstrated commitment to excellence, innovation, teamwork, and sustainable growth.  Special consideration will be given to candidates with experience working with Federal grant requests and opportunities.

The Workweek for this position is currently Monday through Friday.  However, flexibility is needed for special events and fundraising meetings.  Most of the work for this position will be expected to be on-site.

Guest Services Supervisor (Part Time)

Port Discovery Children’s Museum is seeking a customer service-oriented individual to join our Guest Services team as a part-time Guest Services Supervisor

The Supervisor assists in the daily operations of the Museum with a special focus on daily Guest Services operations, Museum Experience Associate (MEA) training and support, delivery of a welcoming, engaging, and safe experience for all visitors, as well as Museum security.

This is a part-time 29-hour per week position.  Initial schedule will be Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.  Evening and holiday work may be necessary.  There may be the opportunity to convert to full-time based on the operating needs of the museum.

Part-Time Facilities Technician

Port Discovery Children’s Museum is seeking a motivated and energetic Facilities Technician to join us on a part-time basis. The Facilities Technician will be part of the team that ensures that the Museum operates at a high level of operational readiness that delivers a quality guest experience. The Technician assists with construction and routine maintenance of all building systems, general repair of exhibit activities and components, control systems, plumbing and light electrical work on the facility and grounds. Must keep inventory and actively replace lighting as needed. Must know and adhere to safety protocol in handling machinery, electrical equipment and power tools. Occasionally, the Facilities Technician will need to drive the company van for repair or other related events and must be able to operate a man-lift to 35 feet.

Position offers up to 29 weekly hours and schedule will be set upon hire based on museum needs. Scheduled work-days may vary from week to week, based on operating requirements. Working special events, weekends, evenings and holidays will be necessary.

Part-Time Museum Experience Associate

As a vital part of the Guest Services Department and Port Discovery team, Museum Experience Associates are responsible for providing guests with an excellent, memorable experience, stellar customer service, and supporting the Museum’s mission and educational philosophy. As a member of our team, you’ll support playful learning and discovery through meaningful interaction with children and adults, ignite imaginations, and promote the power of play in children through hands-on experiences.

The museum is open to the public Wednesdays - Sundays, plus some holidays, and we offer two play sessions per day. Work shifts are:

  • Wednesday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • Thursday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • Friday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • Saturday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm
  • Sunday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm

We are looking for Associates that can commit to working a minimum of three days (at least one a weekend day). Please be prepared to respond with your work arrangement preference when applying.

Port Discovery is seeking individuals who are:

Part-Time Box Office Associate

Port Discovery Children's Museum provides experiences that ignite imagination, inspire learning, and nurture growth through play.  We are currently looking for talented, friendly and outgoing Box Office Associates.  Box Office Associate will serve as the first point of contact for all guests who visit the museum and is responsible for upholding the highest degree of customer service.  Responsibilities include greeting and directing guests, selling museum admissions, as well as maintaining and updating the ticketing software database.

Currently, the museum is open to the public Wednesdays to Sundays, plus some holidays. Work schedules are:

  • Wednesday 9:30 am to 5:00pm
  • Thursdays 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
  • Fridays 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
  • Saturdays 9:30 am to 5:00pm
  • Sundays 9:30 am to 5:00pm

Part-Time Community Outreach Education Associate

We are currently looking for a talented and creative individual to be our part time Community Outreach Education Associate. 

This is an entry level position!!  This is an ideal position for a recent college graduate looking to gain some valuable education experience in an informal setting.  Position offers 34 hours per week, workweek is typically Monday through Friday consisting of 4- to 6-hour shifts, but some weekend shifts monthly may be necessary.  Typical schedule will vary depending on the outreach programming. Scheduled work hours will be adjusted according to department/ museum needs.  Participation in special events, evenings, weekends and holidays may be necessary.

As vital part of the Education Department and Port Discovery team, a Community Outreach Education Associate is responsible for providing programming that supports playful learning and discovery through meaningful interaction and hands-on experiences to children and adults in our community. As a member of our team, you will provide memorable experiences while supporting the Museum’s educational philosophy within and beyond the museum walls.

An Outreach Education Associate facilitates various outreach programming and activities for young children (age birth through 10 years old) at community festivals and events, libraries, classrooms, after school programs, summer camps and many other locations within the community through virtual, in-person and hybrid learning models. Outreach program themes vary and can include STEM, arts & culture, health & physical fitness and other themes as needed.
