Play Expert (Part-Time)

As a vital part of the Guest Services Department and Port Discovery team, Play Experts are responsible for providing guests with an excellent, memorable experience, stellar customer service, and supporting the Museum’s mission and educational philosophy. As a member of our team, you’ll support playful learning and discovery through meaningful interaction with children and adults, ignite imaginations, and promote the power of play in children through hands-on experiences. Play experts work directly with guests in one-on-one or group scenarios to lead, educate and facilitate programming and demonstrate the workings of the museum and exhibits.

The museum is open to the public 5 days a week (Wednesdays to Sundays), plus some holidays. We will be open all 7 days a week (Mondays to Sundays) starting in mid-June. We offer visiting families and groups two play sessions per day. Play Expert work shifts are 9:30 am to 5:30 pm.

This is a part-time position, and we are looking for Experts that can commit to work at a minimum of three days a week. Once the schedule is determined, it is the same weekly. We can offer up to 29 hours per week.

Part-Time Box Office Associate

Port Discovery Children's Museum provides experiences that ignite imagination, inspire learning, and nurture growth through play.  We are currently looking for talented, friendly and outgoing Box Office Associates.  Box Office Associate will serve as the first point of contact for all guests who visit the museum and is responsible for upholding the highest degree of customer service.  Responsibilities include greeting and directing guests, selling museum admissions, as well as maintaining and updating the ticketing software database.

Currently, the museum is open to the public Wednesdays to Sundays, plus some holidays. Work schedules are:

  • Wednesday 9:30 am to 5:00pm
  • Thursdays 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
  • Fridays 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
  • Saturdays 9:30 am to 5:00pm
  • Sundays 9:30 am to 5:00pm

We are looking for Associates that can commit to working at least one weekend day (Saturday or Sunday), plus two additional days (minimum 3 days total). Please be prepared to respond with your desired work schedule preference when applying.

This is an entry-level position, with a starting rate of $12.50 per hour. The position offers up to 29 hours per week.

Group Sales Manager

Port Discovery is seeking a relationship building and goal-oriented individual to be our new Group Sales Manager. As a member of the museum’s Group Sales team, the primary role of the Group Sales Manager is to actively sell the museum to social groups, girl / boy scouts, youth organizations, summer camps, churches, pre-school, elementary and middle schools statewide and in surrounding states. Works closely with the sales team to schedule, track and account for all schools / groups booked in our computer system. Acts as a liaison with the client and the museum staff to maintain consistent product & curriculum materials. Conducts research of emerging markets as well as build upon existing markets. Manages a Specialist and ensures that all function and revenue goals are attained.

This is a full-time position, and the workweek is Monday to Friday, but flexibility in scheduling is needed for special events requiring some weekend or evening work. We are currently open to the public on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Guest Services Manager

Port Discovery is seeking a customer service-oriented individual to join our Guest Services management team as our Guest Services Manager. The Manager will primarily work in and manage the Guest Services Station and assist in the daily operations of the Museum, with a special focus on security and safety. In addition, the Manager works with Guest Services management team in scheduling, daily floor operations and delivery of an exemplary experience, training, and safety. The manager assists in the daily supervision of a staff of up to 25 plus part-time Play Experts by conducting “rounds” and mentoring employees in their overall daily duties and the core values Port Discovery Children’s Museum.

This is a full time 40-hour per week position. Works a very flexible schedule, including weekends, mornings and evenings as needed. The work schedule is currently Thursday to Monday, though that may shift throughout the year and is determined in conjunction with the Guest Services management team.

Housekeeping Associate (Temporary & Part-Time)

Port Discovery is looking for some reliable individuals to join our team for the summer to be our part-time Housekeeping Associates. The Associate is responsible for the cleanliness, upkeep, and thorough deep cleaning of all areas within the museum facility. The objective is to provide a safe, clean, and comfortable museum environment for guests and employees. The successful candidate will have good communication skills, can follow instructions, and takes pride in being part of our team!

This is a temporary and part-time position!! The position can start immediately and will run through Labor Day – September 5, 2022.

The position consists of up to 29 weekly hours, with Saturday AND Sunday shifts required. Schedule may also include weekdays, evenings, and requires flexibility for some events.

Museum Safety Expert (Part-Time)

As a vital part of the Guest Services Department and Port Discovery team, the Museum Safety Expert is responsible for the daily safety and security operations of the museum.

Scheduled work shifts are Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays; 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Weekly hours can go up to 29. Participation in special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays may be requested as well.
