VP of Education and Learning Innovation

Port Discovery Children’s Museum seeks an innovative, motivational, and strategic visionary to lead the delivery of interactive and virtual educational experiences and to inspire learning through play and life-long curiosity.

We are looking for a dynamic and visionary professional with strong leadership and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to help advance the Museum as a statewide and national leader in the field of informal learning, children’s museums, and early childhood education and to expand Port Discovery’s commitment to fostering high-engagement/high-impact interactions for children and families.

This VP of Education and Learning Innovation will foster a culture of learning in the Museum that emphasizes interdisciplinary dialogue, imaginative use of learning and evaluation methods, creativity, and risk-taking. This person will be an advocate for how the power of play can be used for authentic, developmentally appropriate transformative learning opportunities.

Early Childhood & Literacy Specialist

Working as a member of the Education Department, the Early Childhood and Literacy Specialist works to provide engaging, high-quality content in Port Discovery’s Early Childhood and Literacy-related programs. The Specialist researches, creates, implements, and evaluates innovative educational activities, programs, and events for young children (birth through age 10) and their families that support Port Discovery’s commitment to offering innovative, interactive, playful, and engaging learning experiences. In addition to leading, facilitating, and engaging in direct programs with museum visitors, the Specialist conducts trainings for educational programs, engages in educational outreach programs, supports grant-related work as it relates to Early Childhood and Literacy, and develops and maintains pertinent community partnerships that will enhance the Museum offerings and mission.

The Workweek for this position is currently Sunday through Thursday but is subject to change. Scheduled work hours will be adjusted according to department/museum needs. Participation in special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays will be necessary.

The museum is open to the public 4 days per week now, with plans to increase operating hours in the summer. Most of the work for this position will be expected to be on-site.

Visual Arts Specialist

Working as a member of the Education Department, the Visual Arts Specialist works to provide engaging, high-quality programs at Port Discovery and ensure an exemplary museum experience for all. The Specialist researches, creates, implements, and evaluates innovative educational visual arts activities, programs, and events for young children (birth through age 10) and their families that support Port Discovery’s commitment to offering innovative, interactive, playful, and engaging learning experiences. In addition to leading, facilitating, and engaging in visual arts activities and events implemented in the museum and the community, solo/ one-person and/or small team, the Specialist conducts trainings for educational visual arts programs, engages in educational outreach programs, supports grant-related work as it relates to visual arts programming and endeavors, and develops and maintains pertinent community partnerships that will enhance the Museum offerings and mission.

The Workweek for this position is currently Tuesday through Saturday but is subject to change. Scheduled work hours will be adjusted according to department/museum needs. Participation in special events, evenings, weekends, and holidays will be necessary.

Development and Government Relations Specialist

Port Discovery is seeking an enthusiastic and mission-oriented individual to join our Development team as our Development and Government Relations Specialist. If you are looking for the perfect opportunity to grow in non-profit development and fundraising, then this is the perfect job for you!

This role will be responsible for drafting, editing, and submitting written content for grant proposals, reports, and other materials associated with foundation, corporate, and government grants. This person must have excellent grant writing and communication skills and will be responsible for persuasively communicating the organization's mission and programs to potential funders.

The Workweek for this position is currently Monday through Friday. However, flexibility is needed for special events and donor meetings. There will be occasional work in setting up, staffing, and breaking down special events or projects after normal working hours or on weekends.

Part-Time Facilities Technician

Port Discovery Children’s Museum is seeking a motivated and energetic Facilities Technician to join us on a part-time basis. The Facilities Technician will be part of the team that ensures that the Museum operates at a high level of operational readiness that delivers a quality guest experience. The Technician assists with construction and routine maintenance of all building systems, general repair of exhibit activities and components, control systems, plumbing and light electrical work on the facility and grounds. Must keep inventory and actively replace lighting as needed. Must know and adhere to safety protocol in handling machinery, electrical equipment and power tools. Occasionally, the Facilities Technician will need to drive the company van for repair or other related events and must be able to operate a man-lift to 35 feet.

Position offers up to 29 weekly hours and schedule will be set upon hire based on museum needs. Scheduled work-days may vary from week to week, based on operating requirements. Working special events, weekends, evenings and holidays will be necessary.

Part-Time Museum Experience Associate

As a vital part of the Guest Services Department and Port Discovery team, Museum Experience Associates are responsible for providing guests with an excellent, memorable experience, stellar customer service, and supporting the Museum’s mission and educational philosophy. As a member of our team, you’ll support playful learning and discovery through meaningful interaction with children and adults, ignite imaginations, and promote the power of play in children through hands-on experiences.

Currently, the museum is open on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, plus some holidays.

Work shifts are:

  • Wednesday 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
  • Friday 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
  • Saturday 9:30 am to 5:00 pm
  • Sunday 10:30 am to 5:00 pm

We are looking for Associates that can commit to working both weekdays plus one weekend day (minimum of three days). Please be prepared to respond with your work arrangement preference when applying.

Port Discovery is seeking individuals who are:

Part-Time Box Office Associate

Port Discovery Children's Museum provides experiences that ignite imagination, inspire learning, and nurture growth through play.  We are currently looking for talented, friendly and outgoing Box Office Associates. Box Office Associate will serve as the first point of contact for all guests who visit the museum and is responsible for upholding the highest degree of customer service. Responsibilities include greeting and directing guests, selling museum admissions, as well as maintaining and updating the ticketing software database.

Currently, the museum is open on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, plus some holidays. Work schedules for this position are:

· Wednesday 9:30 am to 2:00 pm

· Friday 9:30 am to 4:00 pm

· Saturday 9:30 am to 4:00 pm

· Sunday 10:30 am to 4:00 pm

Part-Time Community Outreach Education Associate

We are currently looking for a talented and creative individual to be our part-time Community Outreach Education Associate.

This is an entry-level position!! This is an ideal position for a recent college graduate looking to gain some valuable education experience in an informal setting. The position offers 29 hours per week, work week is typically Monday through Friday consisting of 4- to 6-hour shifts, but some weekend shifts monthly may be necessary. The typical schedule will vary depending on the outreach programming. Scheduled work hours will be adjusted according to department/ museum needs. Participation in special events, evenings, weekends and holidays may be necessary.

As a vital part of the Education Department and Port Discovery team, a Community Outreach Education Associate is responsible for providing programming that supports playful learning and discovery through meaningful interaction and hands-on experiences to children and adults in our community. As a member of our team, you will provide memorable experiences while supporting the Museum’s educational philosophy within and beyond the museum walls.

An Outreach Education Associate facilitates various outreach programming and activities for young children (age birth through 10 years old) at community festivals and events, libraries, classrooms, after-school programs, summer camps, and many other locations within the community through virtual, in-person, and hybrid learning models. Outreach program themes vary and can include STEM, arts & culture, health & physical fitness, and other themes as needed.

Part-Time Community Outreach Education Associate (Summer Only / Temporary)

We are currently looking for a talented and creative individual to be our part-time Community Outreach Education Associate for this summer.

This is an entry level, temporary and part-time position!!

This temporary Community Outreach Education Associate will ensure show quality in our virtual format and in-person programming with our summer 2021 partners. The Associate will facilitate various outreach programming and activities that supports playful learning and discovery through meaningful interaction and hands-on experiences for young children (PreK through 5th grade).

The work schedule will be 4 – 5 days per week (Monday through Friday), up to 24 hours. No weekend or holiday work required. The position will run for 6 weeks, June 21st through July 30th.
