Port Discovery Children’s Museum is committed to ensuring every child has access to powerful, purposeful play – and as part of that commitment, we’re proud to launch our new PlayMakers program aimed at encouraging people of all backgrounds and circumstances to visit and benefit from Port Discovery Children’s Museum by eliminating cost as a barrier to visiting.

Through Port Discovery’s PlayMakers program, any Maryland family that qualifies for nutritional assistance and is in possession of a valid EBT/Independence Card or WIC ID can visit Port Discovery for $3 per person (valid for up to 5 tickets per EBT/Independence Card or WIC ID) on any day the Museum is open to the general public.

Children under the age of one enter for free, but you still MUST reserve a ticket for each child visiting. Additional guests age one or older are welcome but must pay the full $19.95 per person admission rate.

To visit using the PlayMakers program, follow these steps:

  • Step 1: Confirm your eligibility for the PlayMakers program.
  • Step 2: Purchase/reserve your tickets for your visit by going to https://tickets.portdiscovery.org/DateSelection.aspx?item=198 and selecting the PlayMakers Admission rate. Please remember that the $3 per person admission rate is valid for up to 5 tickets per EBT/Independence Card or WIC ID. Note: In order to qualify for this rate, you will need to present a valid Maryland EBT/Independence card or WIC ID when you come for your visit. Remember that children under the age of one enter for free. Additional guests age one or older are welcome but must pay the full $19.95 per person admission rate.
  • Step 3: After reserving your tickets and planning your visit, arrive at the Museum on the day and time that your tickets are valid for. Proceed to the Box Office and provide your ticket confirmation information to the Box Office Associate at the counter. Please also be prepared to present your valid EBT/Independence card or WIC ID plus a valid Photo ID when you arrive for your visit.

What is PlayMakers?

PlayMakers is a program that provides low-cost admission to families who qualify for nutritional assistance and that are in possession of a valid MarylandEBT/Independence Card or WIC ID. This program is aimed at encouraging people of all backgrounds and circumstances to visit and benefit from Port Discovery Children’s Museum by reducing cost as a barrier to visiting.

The developmental benefits of play are critical to every child’s growth and PlayMakers ensure that all children and families are equipped with critical resources to succeed. Who is eligible for discounted admission via the PlayMakers program?

Any Maryland family that qualifies for nutritional assistance and is in possession of a valid  EBT/Independence Card or WIC ID is eligible for discounted admission via the PlayMakers program. Through this program, participants can visit Port Discovery for $3 per person (valid for up to 5 tickets per EBT/Independence Card or WIC ID) on any day the Museum is open to the general public. At this time, the PlayMakers program and rate is only available to Maryland families that qualify for nutritional and that are in possession of a  valid  EBT/Independence Card or WIC ID. We hope to have funding support to expand eligibility to families from other states in the future.

What do I need to do to visit the Museum using the PlayMakers program?

  • Finally, after reserving your tickets and planning your visit, arrive at the Museum on the day and time that your tickets are valid for. Are advance tickets/reservations required if I’m participating in the PlayMakers program?

Yes. Advance tickets/reservations are currently required for all Port Discovery visitors and members. Please also remember that capacity is significantly limited, and we strongly suggest planning ahead to make sure that you can visit Port Discovery on the day and time that works best for your family.

How do I purchase/reserve advance tickets to visit Port Discovery using the PlayMakers program?

What do I need to bring with me to redeem the PlayMakers rate?

When arriving at the Museum, please be prepared to present your valid EBT/Independence Card or WIC ID plus a valid Photo ID when you arrive for your visit. No need to print or show your email confirmation.

How many people can I bring with me if I’m visiting via the PlayMakers program?

You can bring as many people with you as you would like, but please remember that the discounted PlayMakers rate of $3 per person is only valid for up to 5 tickets per EBT/Independence Card or WIC ID.  Children under one enter for free. Additional people in your party must pay the regular admission rate. Remember that all guests must purchase/reserve their tickets ahead of visiting. Walk up ticket purchases are not available at this time.

When can I visit the Museum if I’m visiting via the PlayMakers program?

Any Maryland EBT card (known as the Independence card) or WIC ID holder is eligible for the PlayMakers admission rate to Port Discovery Children’s Museum ) on any day the Museum is open to the general public. Please check the Museum’s Hours of Operations for the most up-to-date hours of operation. Please also remember that the Museum is currently operating at a significantly reduced capacity and tickets often sell out. If you do not see your preferred date available, please consider choosing another option. Thank you for your understanding.

How frequently can I use the PlayMakers program to visit Port Discovery?

As many times as you’d like! Maryland EBT/Independence Card or WIC ID holders can visit Port Discovery Children’s Museum as many times as they like using the PlayMakers program and discounted rate.

Do I use my EBT or WIC ID cards for payment?

No. The EBT/Independence Cards and WIC ID Cards are simply used for identification, showing that you are eligible for the PlayMakers admission rate. You must purchase/reserve your tickets in advance by going to https://tickets.portdiscovery.org/selection.aspx?item=198 , selecting the desired date and then paying by credit/debit card.

What if I need to change my reservation?

We understand that plans with children can change at the last minute. We ask that once you reserve a ticket, you let us know as soon as possible if you cannot make it. Contact us by the day of your visit by replying to your confirmation email or calling the Box Office at 410-864-2744 to alert us to your change in plans and reschedule your reservation. Tickets are nonrefundable and reservations cannot be rescheduled after the reserved date has passed.

Does the PlayMakers admission rate apply for group rates, school field trips, special events, or birthday parties?

No. The PlayMakers admission rate is not valid for group rates, school field trips, special events, or birthday parties.

What if someone cannot afford to visit but does not qualify for SNAP/EBT/Independence Cards or WIC IDs and the PlayMakers rate?

Port Discovery Children’s Museum offers several free and discounted admissions programs, including a monthly $2 Community Day, our annual Salute the Troops promotions for our Military/Veteran families, and free ticket distributions via partner organizations. These discounts are made possible thanks to our generous donors and funders.

Transportation and Parking Information

What if someone cannot afford the transportation cost related to a museum visit?

Through the generous support of the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA), Port Discovery Children’s Museum can provide guests visiting via the PlayMakers program with an MTA Day Pass good for your return home fare OR good for fare towards a future visit to the Museum. Please note that supplies are limited. The MTA Day Pass cards are good for MTA CityLink, LocalLink, ExpressLink, Light Rail, and Metro Subway, and are valid for transportation on one day only. Once the card is activated/used, you can use the MTA Day Pass for transportation to/from Port Discovery and other destinations for that day only. MTA Day Pass Card can be requested during the reservation process. Does PlayMakers offer a special free or discounted parking rate for PlayMaker visitors?

We’re sorry, but Port Discovery Children’s Museum does not offer a special free or discounted parking rate for PlayMakers visitors as we do not control any of the parking facilities in our area However, the Harbor Park Garage, located directly next door to Port Discovery Children’s Museum at the corner of Lombard Street and Market Place, offers all Museum guests a discounted parking rate of $15 per day on most of the days the Museum is open. Please note, some dates may be excluded and rates/availability are subject to change without notice. Port Discovery Children’s Museum does not own, operate or manage the Harbor Park Garage.
